The Barnstaple Youth Marching Band was formed in the Spring of 2005 and is based at the Barnstaple Youth House in Market Street.
The Band is registered with Devon County Council, the ‘Young Devon organisation’ and, also has the support of Barnstaple Town Council: who granted the band permission to include the Town’s Coat-of-Arms on their uniforms and instruments. The band currently has a membership of 27, which are ably supported by six adult members.
The Band takes part in many carnivals and other events throughout the Westcountry, and if you would like them to perform at your function or event, then contact Andrew or Joy on the telephone numbers listed below.
On the 1 October 2006, the Youth Band officially affiliated to the Salamanca Band & Bugles of the Rifles.
Such was the training received from the musicians of the Salamanca Band that at the 2007 & 2008 North Devon Festival of Remembrance Concert, the BYMB drummers perform the ‘Victory Beatings’, under ultraviolet lighting - once the preserve of the Salamanca Band !
